In November 2023, Mr. Vasquez’ supervisory role expanded to overseeing the Denver Housing Unit and its eviction defense team, dedicated to providing assistance and direct legal representation to tenants facing eviction actions, including via being present at eviction clinics at various courthouses. Prior to joining CLS, Mr. Vasquez was in private practice where he focused on consumer bankruptcy representation. He also served as Staff Attorney to a Chapter 13 bankruptcy trustee in the Southern District of Ohio. Mr. Vasquez initially started his career in legal services, which he decided was his true calling and joined CLS in 1999. Mr. Vasquez is originally from Ohio and received his B.A. from Miami University in 1988 and his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1991. Mr. Vasquez is on the board of directors of Colorado for Center on Law and Policy, a non-partisan, nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to assisting Coloradans systemically in the areas of public benefits, housing and health care. Mr. Vasquez is also a member of the Colorado Supreme Court Civil Rules Committee, which is tasked with reviewing and making amendments to the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure. Mr. Vasquez was a past member and Chair of the Council of Advisors on Consumer Credit with the State of Colorado, providing feedback to the state’s UCCC administrator on lending issues. He has been featured in media publications and articles relating to foreclosure, bankruptcy and predatory lending. Mr. Vasquez has also been invited to testify in hearings on legislation related to the foreclosure process, changes to HOA laws, and proposed revisions to the Colorado Consumer Protection Act. Mr. Vasquez has also been active in providing input on implementing changes to Colorado’s rules of procedures governing garnishment and evictions. Mr. Vasquez has been a speaker on various housing and consumer rights topics at numerous conferences, seminars and events. Most recently, Mr. Vasquez was on a panel of speakers at the National Consumer Law Center’s Consumer Rights Litigation Conference, where he spoke representation of homeowners facing enforcement actions by homeowners associations.
