Biography
Judge Diego Hunt was appointed to the 1st Judicial District Court bench April 2016, where he hears a mixed docket of criminal, domestic relations and civil cases. Prior to his appointment, Judge Hunt was a member of Holland & Hart LLP’s commercial litigation group handling complex commercial, international and government contract disputes in state and federal courts. Before joining Holland & Hart, Judge Hunt practiced family law with the Harris Law Firm, P.C., and criminal, immigration and family law with Allen, Nunemaker & Hunt, LLC. After law school he managed community-based grant-funded programs in west and north Denver through the Denver Department of Public Safety and the Denver District Attorney’s Office, working predominantly with Denver’s monolingual Spanish-speaking communities. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Hunt was involved in numerous boards and organizations, including serving as the president of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, Co-chair of the Colorado Pledge to Diversity and Co-Chair of Denver’s Latino Commission. He has also served on the Colorado Bar Association’s Board of Governors, the Colorado Lawyers Committee, the Faculty of Federal Advocates, the Office of Language Access Oversight Committee and on the Our Courts Executive Committee. He continues to serve as a mentor through the DU Law mentoring program and presents on various topics, including views from the bench on civil and family law cases. Judge Hunt earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and his B.S. and B.A. from the University of Florida. He hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and grew up in Miami, Florida. He has called Denver home since moving to Colorado to attend law school.
