Biography
Judge Gonzales is a fifth generation resident of the San Luis Valley. He attended the University of Colorado graduating with a BA in 1975 and obtained his JD from the University of Colorado Law School in 1978. He engaged in a general practice of law from that time until his appointment to the bench. Judge Gonzales was appointed on January 1, 1997 as the first 12th Judicial District Juvenile Magistrate for 12th Judicial District, on January 9, 2001 is was appointed as the first Hispanic to the Alamosa County Judge, in August 2007 he was appointed as the first Hispanic District Judge for 12th District. Judge Gonzales retired from the District Judgeship on April 1, 2022 and now presides a visiting Senior Judge. Judge Gonzales is the judicial officer appointment to the Colorado Restorative Justice Coordinating Council (RJ Council) and a member of the Maestas Case Commemoration Committee.
