A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month

On October 8, 2024, the Colorado Supreme Court courtroom hosted an insightful and inspiring event focused on the unique challenges confronting Hispanic litigants in Colorado’s courts. The event, which drew attendees from across the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association community, featured a distinguished panel of legal professionals and leaders and was moderated by Chief Justice Monica Márquez of the Colorado Supreme Court.
The program opened with welcoming remarks from Chief Judge Gilbert Román of the Colorado Court of Appeals, setting the stage for a meaningful conversation about the importance of understanding the barriers and experiences faced by Hispanic individuals within the legal system.
The panel, which included Justice Carlos Samour of the Colorado Supreme Court, Hon. Mariana Vielma from the Adams County Court, Amber Gonzales, President of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association (CHBA), and Mercedes Pineda, Incoming President of CHBA, brought together a wealth of expertise and diverse perspectives. They explored a range of issues, from cultural barriers to representation in the legal profession, sharing personal experiences and reflections on how the legal system can better serve Hispanic populations.
The event concluded with a lively performance by Mariachi Los Viajeros de Denver, adding a festive atmosphere to the end of an enriching and successful gathering.
